[Solved] HowTo Reset user credentials

From time to time, I get emails or slack messages asking how to reset user credentials. Maybe you somehow missed the couple of opportunities built into the installer or on first boot. Maybe you setup a really secure password that protects even against yourself. It’s okay, we’re not keeping score.

RockNSM is built upon the solid foundation of CentOS 7, which is in turn built on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7. Red Hat has great documentation, and if you have access to the bootloader, you can follow the steps to Reset the Root Password Using rd.break.

If you can’t modify the boot loader, well… Good luck. You’re best off to reinstall. If you’re feeling froggy, maybe aim to develop a 0-day exploit against a hardened box running SELinux. As I said… Good luck!
